Finding an advocate

Advocacy is when someone helps you to speak up for yourself.

An advocate can help you:

  • talk to support services, organisations and employers
  • make complaints
  • share your ideas.

Advocates also give you information and advice about your rights.

When you know what your rights are, it’s easier to:

  • stand up for yourself
  • share your ideas
  • make your own choices.

This is called self-advocacy.
