What is sexual violence?

Sexual violence is when someone forces you to do something sexual without your consent.

A woman and a man standing next to each other. There is a heart above them. The man is smiling. The woman has her thumbs down showing she doesn’t agree

When you give your consent, you say it is OK for someone to do something.

Sexual violence can be when someone:

  • forces you to have sex when you don’t want to – this is also called rape or sexual assault
  • touches your vagina, breasts, penis or bottom when you don’t want them to
  • makes sexual comments about you – this is also called sexual harassment
  • asks you to have sex with them because they are helping or supporting you.

It’s never OK to do these things without your consent.

And it’s never OK to do these things with a child.
