A person’s gender is not the same as their sex.

For example, someone who was assigned as a male when they are born, could become a woman later in life.

There are people who don’t identify as male or female.

When you identify as something, you say that you belong to a certain group of people.

If someone doesn’t identify as male or female, this is called being:

  • non-binary
  • gender queer
  • agender
  • pangender
  • bi-gender.
