Issues for women with disability

In Australia, women and girls with disability:

• are usually not given information about their sexual health
• have their children taken away from them more than women and girls without disability

• aren’t as free to be in a loving relationship and have sex
• are thought to not be interested in sex

• experience more sexual violence than women and girls without disability. Sexual violence is when someone forces you to do something sexual when you don’t want to

• experience high rates of forced:
  • contraception
  • abortion
  • sterilisation – when you take away someone’s ability to have children with surgery.

This is never OK.
