The Privacy Act 1988 is a law that protects your right to privacy in Australia.

This Act lets you control how your personal information is used by services and organisations.

It means you can ask:

  • why they want your personal information
  • what they will do with your personal information
  • for your personal information to be kept private
  • to see your personal information
  • to stop getting phone calls and emails from people you don’t want to hear from.
